Obituary for Marvin Charles "Marv" Eidman

Marvin Charles "Marv" Eidman
Marvin Charles “Marv” Eidman entered into heaven on July 31, 2016, at the age of 97. He was predeceased by his wife Arlene of 74 years just 30 days prior, his eight brothers and sisters, and his son-in-law Bruce Miller. He is survived by his children Linda Miller, Sandy (Ray) Shrader, Gerald (Norma) Eidman, Nancy (Warren) Simms; grandchildren Vern (Amy) Miller, Curt (Liz) Miller, Stacey (Chris) Shrader Joslin, Shannon Eidman, David Eidman, Lindsey Simms and Samuel Simms; great grandchildren Brittany (Joe) Sloan, Rene Miller, Dillon Miller, Leaha Eidman; and several nieces and nephews and dear friends.

Viewing will be at Walker Brothers Funeral Home, 15 West Ave., Spencerport, NY 14559, on Thursday from
3-7 pm, followed by a memorial service at 7 pm. Burial will be private family ceremony.

Marvin was born October 13, 1918, in Schenectady, New York. His family soon moved to Rochester and he began working at the age of 12 delivering groceries for Hart’s Groceries. He met his wife, Arlene Marian Bloss, while working there. They married on January 31, 1942, raised four children and served as foster parents for 23 years.

They attended and both sang in the choir at St. Marks & St. John’s Episcopal Church in Rochester. Later, they attended and became members of Faith Covenant Fellowship Church in Medina.

During World War II, Marvin served with the Auxiliary Police, going door-to-door in his neighborhood during air raids and other drills making sure people were safe.

Marvin transferred to the Hart’s Groceries store in Spencerport and became a manager there. In the 1960s Hart’s was purchased by Star Market. Marvin stayed with the company, relocating to a store in Sea Breeze, which he managed. Marvin semi-retired from Star to take over ownership and operation of Radio City Tavern on Atlantic Ave. in Rochester, which his father had owned. He eventually sold the tavern and went to work for Kaddis Manufacturing on Scottsville Rd. in Rochester. He retired in 1984.

Following retirement, the couple moved to Ontario where they managed Galvin’s Mobile Home Park. For the last several years, Marvin was living at Wedgewood Nursing Home in Spencerport.

Marvin’s hobbies and interests included collecting coins and stamps, bowling, camping, fishing, horse shoes and taking videos of family events. He enjoyed watching birds and wildlife and simply holding his wife’s hand. He and Arlene spent many summer’s at the Double D Campground in North Rose. They were six month’s shy of their 75th wedding anniversary when Arlene passed on July 1, 2016.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Faith Covenant Fellowship Church, 11945 Million Dollar Hwy., Medina, NY 14103.
