Obituary for Raymond K. "Ray" Spencer

Raymond K. "Ray" Spencer
Raymond “Ray” Spencer, age 92, passed away on July 21, 2016, after a long illness.
Ray was born on May 19, 1924 in Spencerport, NY. Ray’s great, great grandfather, Daniel Spencer, is the person for whom the Village of Spencerport was named.
Ray’s first job, at age 12, was a paper route. After graduation from Spencerport High School in 1942, Ray traveled across the US with his friends, Gordon Swain, which was a highlight of his youth. Ray graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY, in 1948, with a degree in Industrial Chemistry and Engineering. He accepted a position at Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, NY, where he worked for 34 years.
Ray was a great family man and a loving husband and father. He married Helen “Betty” Nelson in 1955 and the couple had three children together.
Ray was a social, active man who was deeply involved in church activities at the First Congregational (better known as the “White Church”) in Spencerport, the church choir for 57 years, as well as, the retired men’s group at the church, for the majority of his life. He enjoyed camping and trips to the Adirondacks with his family, as well as other family oriented activities. His family and friends will always remember him as a very intelligent, educated, kind, and generous person.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Helen (Betty) Spencer, of Spencerport, NY, his children, David (Paula) Spencer, Daniel (Maria) Spencer, of Spencerport, NY, and Carol Spencer, of Orlando, FL, and grandchildren, James, Sarah, Evan, Jeffrey, and Jason, of Spencerport, NY, as well as, several extended family members, and a few dear friends.. He is preceded in death by his mother, Frances Gridley Spencer, and father, Foster F, Spencer, of Spencerport, NY.
A Celebration of life will be held August 20th at the First Congregational Church, 55 Church Street, Spencerport NY AT 11 am. A reception will follow at the Spencerport Firemen’s Exempts. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the First Congregational Church, Spencerport NY, or the Spencerport Fire Department.
